Ikkoten Review: Best Omakase Experience in Singapore at This Hidden Telok Ayer Spot?
Ikkoten Omakase
If you're looking for an omakase experience that won't completely destroy your wallet, this hidden spot in Telok Ayer is worth seeking out. The chef clearly puts serious thought into R&D, and it shows. Every single dish felt completely new, which is saying something for someone who eats out regularly
What We Ordered
Wagyu with Foie Gras ⭐ 9/10⭐ 9/10

The wagyu was as tender as you'd expect, but the foie gras preparation stood out. They drained the fat and cooked it in its own fat for a crispy exterior that wasn't cloying at all. This technique elevated both components and made it such an enjoyable course dish.
Katsuo Tataki Sashimi ⭐ 9/10⭐ 9/10

This otsukuri was completely unique. The ponzu foam had this light, citrusy texture that somehow created an almost creamy, cheesy flavour when eaten with the tataki and caramelised onions. Sounds weird but went so well together. One of the more memorable dishes.
Cold Chawanmushi ⭐ 8/10⭐ 8/10

This was my first time having cold chawanmushi, which immediately set the tone for how different this meal would be. Came with a perfectly seasoned fried snack that added nice textural contrast.
Seabass ⭐ 10/10⭐ 10/10

This was the best seabass I've ever had, and I don't say that lightly. Incredibly soft and tender but still had substance to it. Zero fishiness too!!! The preparation technique here was clearly next level.
Black Sesame Tofu ⭐ 8/10⭐ 8/10

Tofu made from black sesame instead of soy. The texture was completely different from regular tofu, with this deep nutty aroma that caught me off guard. Creative and well executed.
Sushi Selection with Yuzu Dashi Broth ⭐ 8/10⭐ 8/10
All the sushi pieces were fresh and creamy. There was also a yuzu clear dashi broth served as a palate cleanser worked perfectly to reset between different pieces :)
Negitoro Uni with Gold Flakes ⭐ 9/10⭐ 9/10

Served with crispy crackers sandwiching the sashimi, that added textural contrast to the creamy uni and fresh negitoro. The combination was rich and savoury without being overwhelming. The gold flakes made it absolutely gorgeous to look at too :p
Hojicha Ice Cream ⭐ 8/10⭐ 8/10

Finally we had their house-made hojicha ice cream to finish. This was nutty, creamy and not too sweet, with good hojicha flavour. A solid way to end the meal.
Overall Thoughts
This was genuinely one of the best omakase experiences I've had. The creativity level was impressive, and every dish felt thoughtfully prepared. With their Omakase sets starting at $88, it's rare to find this level of creativity and quality at this price point in Singapore.
Would I return? Absolutely. This is the kind of place that makes you want to bring friends just to see their reactions to dishes they've never tried before.

Barrio: Good Spanish Food in a Quiet Neighbourhood
Barrio leans more modern Spanish than old-school, and the Iberico pork paella was easily the standout for me. It’s in a quieter neighbourhood too, which made the whole meal feel a lot more relaxed than the usual city dinner spot.
